Future Presidents Institute

Our Future Presidents Institute is designed to train a very select group of highly qualified individuals who are interested in becoming community college presidents. National Search & Education Consulting is the developer and administrator of the Institute.

Faculty and Presenters

FPI faculty and presenters are nationally recognized individuals who have outstanding reputations as experienced leaders in community colleges, equivalent leadership positions, or are recognized national experts in areas critical to successful leadership.

Admission to the Institute

All participants are admitted to the program through a process conducted by National Search & Education Consulting. Each participant is responsible for his or her own lodging, transportation, and expenses. The FPI is held at the Center for School Leadership Development in Chapel Hill, NC.

Institute Details

Each FPI consists of two phases.

Phase I consists of pre-Institute exercises, including on-line assignments, directed readings and response exercises.  Participants receive bi-weekly assignments during the months prior to the Institute.  These assignments include in-depth reviews of critical leadership concepts and important community college leadership issues. The purpose of the assignments is to allow the participants to increase and broaden their knowledge and understanding of the critical community college leadership issues presidents face and to become skilled in determining the underlying leadership concepts, opportunities and problems. These activities help the participants develop a greater appreciation for the role presidential leadership plays in the success of a college. 

Phase II consists of a concluding four-day seminar that will build on the common base of knowledge developed during Phase I.  The second phase of the program involves seminars and group activities that address the practical side of presidential leadership.
